| Drawing on many years of experience and
expertise in the field of anti-inflammatory and
analgesic plasters, development work at Teikoku
Seiyaku is now proceeding in two directions.
The first focuses on new products employing
transdermal (through the skin) absorption
technology, which is an offshoot of our specialty
in anti-inflammatory analgesic plasters, for other
therapeutic areas. The general conception is
that medication is taken orally, but some drugs
are best delivered transdermally to minimize
adverse reactions. As experts in transdermal
absorption technology, we feel that such
products have great potential for a wide variety
of applications. Our second area of product
development is in pain-relief products. To further
expand our dosage types, we launched a
morphine sulfate sustained-release capsule to
treat cancer pain in 2001. Only a limited number
of manufacturers worldwide are licensed to
handle narcotic drugs. |
